July Meeting- Insights into the Fabric Design Industry

Our quilt guild meeting this month was held at a cool, new venue called Due South Coffee Roasters. There were some new faces this month and we are always excited to meet and welcome new people to our group. The atmosphere was wonderful; however, the acoustics were a little louder than expected. We will be working with the Due South staff to see if we can utilize one of their meeting rooms in the future.

Congratulations to Paige and Cheryl! They are finalists in the modern quilt category in the AQS show which takes place in Charlotte next month.

Several people shared quilts and quilt related items this month. Cheryl and Paige showed us their Michael Miller Challenge quilts. They did a fabulous job on those! Debbie showed us an adorable quilt made for her grandchild from animal fabrics. Christa showed us an Aztec inspired crib quilt made with Indian Summer fabrics and a paper pieced arrow pillow.

After show and tell, Tim Reynolds, who is a fabric designer and textile artist from Fabric Editions right here in Greenville, shared with us the ins and outs of working in the textile industry. He brought a lot of samples with him and had a printed handout with examples of how the fabric is stretched onto rollers and printed. Of course, since we all are fabric addicts, it was a very intriguing lecture and we all learned a lot. We appreciate him relinquishing a few hours on his busy Saturday to come and speak with us!

Stay tuned for details on our sew Saturday at the library next month. Details will be posted soon on times and library location. Our September meeting is all about sharing your favorite quilting tool, so be thinking of what awesome tool that you can’t live without that you would like to bring and share!001 004 008 010 011 012 015 016 018 019
